Hello gamers and welcome to another OCAS review. Today. will be review # 15: Sonic Adventure 2 for the SEGA Dreamcast and the Nintendo Gamecube. Anyways, So let’s get into the review.

Story

The story for Sonic Adventure2 is better than some Sonic stories. Dr. Eggman breaks into the G.U.N base to find the ultimate life form which was created by his grandfather. When he sees the ultimate life form, Shadow the Hedgehog is revealed to by the ultimate life form. When Eggman gets to the Space Colony ARK, Shadow shows him the Eclipse Cannon where the power of the 7 Chaos Emeralds will be used to destroy an entire planet. Along of the bat thief Rouge, they will use the power of the Chaos Emeralds and the Master Emerald, to destroy Earth.

Sonic Adventure 2 Gameplay

Trying to cover from the G.U.N unit finding Shadow, he blames Sonic the Hedgehog for the crimes and is put on lock down. With the help of Tails, and Knuckles, the heroes must save the Earth. Will Sonic beat Shadow and save the Earth? Play the game to find out.

Gameplay

The gameplay in Sonic Adventure 2 is different from the first game. Instead of six stories, you get 2. Hero and Dark. The Hero story characters are Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, and the Dark story characters are Shadow, Eggman, and Rouge. The speed characters are Sonic and Shadow. Their gameplay is amazing and it’s an updated version of the Sonic gameplay from SA1. The new aspect for their gameplay is grinding, where you ride on a rail. The shooting characters are Tails and Eggman. In my honest opinion, I thought it worked for Eggman, but not for Tails. Your in a vehicle shooting enemies. Rings are needed since you have health to help you. And last the treasure hunting characters are Knuckles and Rouge. Their gameplay is just boring and it;s not fun. I didn’t like it in the first game, and it’s worse in this game. The stages are bigger, causing you to have a hard time. There are other modes such as the Chao Garden, which is back from the first game and it’s improved. The bosses in this game are some of the worst bosses ever. Unlike other Sonic games where you wait for the boss to show their weak spot, you just attack them which has no strategy what so ever. So the gameplay for Sonic Adventure 2 is great but not the best gameplay for the Sonic series.

Sound

Shadow's Chao has just evolved.

The sound in Sonic Adventure 2 is amazing. It has more rock themes for the stages than just orchestral like Super Mario Galaxy, and the Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time. I would have liked some orchestral themes. The SFX are great but there’s not really anything special going on with them and the voice acting is great but not as good as SA1′s voice acting. So overall, the sound in Sonic Adventure 2  is amazing but not outstanding.

Graphics

The graphics for Sonic Adventure 2 Battle are good but not the best graphics for the DC. First off some of the textures look blurry and not detailed. Character models are good and some of the backgrounds are 2-D like Ocarina of Time. The cutscenes look horrible for Dreamcast. standards, and the lip-sinking is terrible. So overall, the graphics for Sonic Adventure 2 are good but not the best graphics for the Dremacast.

Controls

There are 3 different flavors of controls in Sonic Adventure 2.

The speed characters move with the analog stick and jump by pressing A. To do a Homing Attack, you press A twice. To do a Spin Dash, you press and hold X and release X to go. On a rail, you press X to go faster, and jump off by press A.

The shooting characters move with the analog stick and jump with A. You shoot with X and hold X to lock on to targets. To hover, you press and hold the A button twice.

The treasure hunting characters move with the analog stick and jump by pressing A. To glide, you press and hold the A button twice. To punch, you press X and keep pressing it to do combos. To ding on a wall you press X and to dig on the ground you jump and press X.

So overall the controls in Sonic Adventure 2  are outstanding and pretty easy to learn.

Sonic Adventure Battle

In 2002, A game called Sonic Adventure 2 Battle came out and it was not as good as the original game. It had more gameplay modes and updated graphics.

Overall

Overall Sonic Adventure 2 in my opinion, was not as good as the first Adventure, I still think it’s a great Sonic game and one of the best. I recommend you to buy this game or buy the Gamecube version Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. Here’s the breakdown:
